I believe it is important to have a healthy and nutritious breakfast, so I have added some wholesome ingredients to this recipe:

Chia Seeds: Chia seeds are rich in antioxidants that help protect the body from free radicals, aging and cancer.

Flax Seeds: Flax seeds could help improve digestion, give you clear skin, lower cholesterol, balance hormones, and promote weight loss.

Cacao Powder: May lower blood pressure, reduce the risk of blood clots, and raise the level of serotonin in the brain to boost overall happiness.

Overnight Chai Spiced Steel-Cut Oats

I personally prefer steel cut oats, but feel free to use old fashioned oats or quick-cooking oats. I use the Steel Cut Quick-Cooking Oats. I recently discovered them in the grocery store and went crazy over them! I hate how long steel cut oats take to cook in the morning time, so finding the quick-cooking version was awesome to me.

The overnight steel cut oats do have a little bit of chewy texture to them, but I LOVE IT! It is kind of like eating a chewy chai granola…..well, sort of. Not really. I have not tried it with old fashioned oats or quick-cooking oats, but I can only imagine that it is a lot less chewy.

I am a big fan of chai, so being able to curl up on the couch and enjoy a warm bowl of chai spiced oatmeal is relaxing to me. Although, I usually grab-n-go, and it taste just as delightful eaten cold. My favorite toppings are sliced almonds, blueberries, and banana.

If you do have time to cook in the morning time, you can also use this exact same recipe for cooking on the stove.

Overnight Chai Spiced Steel-Cut Oats

This oatmeal will keep well in the fridge for up to 3 days. So I usually have breakfast made for the next few days after I make this, which is always a plus. 🙂

  1. This looks delicious. Have you tried making it with regular steel-cut oats, or only the quick-cooking kind? I only have regular on hand but am not sure if it would turn out TOO crunchy/chewy. Thanks.

      Hello Lauren!
Thank you and Yes, I have used both. You can go ahead and use the regular steel-cut oats. It will hardly be anymore chewy than the quick cooking version that I used. They both taste yummy! I actually loved it eaten cold in the morning. 🙂

  2. Oh, Amanda, I love chai-spiced anything! I’m also a big eater of oatmeal, so this recipe is hitting so many targets right now. 🙂 Plus, the convenience of overnight oats is just awesome. It’s super cool that you include chia seeds and flax seeds, so we all get about double-dose of seedy, nutritious goodness. I have to say, I’m enjoying seeing these non-savory recipes from you! Can’t wait to see more. 🙂
